Tunes

I’ve been grappling lately DVD-Audio, that mysterious format that nobody bothers with. I recently came to posess a DVD-Audio disc (Eric Clapton and BB King: “Riding With the King”) but can’t rip it to save my life.

Of course my intention is to backup a legitimate disc… of course, but there’s seems to be no way of doing so short of hooking up my DVD player to my PC’s sound card and recording it that way. But the quality of this method is doubtful to say the least.

If anyone has any clue how to extract the tracks as something useful (ie: MP3, AAC, WAV etc) do let me know.

After some research it was obvious that this format has not exactly taken off (and I suspect it never will) and that a lot of people have questioned it’s purpose, but looking into the specs of the format reveals the exceptional sound quality you get. As well as various types of surround encoding. Quite impressive.

But it would still need to be a very special album for me to go for the DVD-Audio option. Esspecially considering the lack of compatability, or should that be portability? :)
